Seniors Strength Training

There are numerous studies touting the benefits of exercise and a recent study adds to the body of research finding that strength training can help you live longer. The 15-year study included more than 30,000 people, all age 65 and older. Nearly 10% reported strength training at least twice a week. These participants lowered their risk of dying from any cause by almost half. In addition, they were 41% less likely to die from heart disease and 19% less likely to die from cancer compared to those who didn’t do any strength training.


Strength training is a type of physical exercise specializing in the use of resistance to build strength, endurance, and muscles for the legs, back, chest, arms, and more. Previous studies show that strength training may improve balance, lower back pain, and chronic conditions such as diabetes and osteoporosis.
